OUTSTANDING DVD AND VIDEO GAME RETAILERS RECOGNIZED
EMA Presents Retailer of the Year Awards to Five Companies
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (June 24, 2008) – The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) and its Independent Dealers of Entertainment Association (iDEA) division today announced the recipients of their 2008 Retailer of the Year awards. The Retailer of the Year awards are given annually to recognize successful video and video game merchants. Awardees are selected on the basis of business practices, operational policies, marketing and merchandising programs, customer service, and involvement in EMA and/or iDEA. The winners were presented during the opening session of EMA's Home Media Expo 2008 at the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
"The home entertainment industry benefits from the outstanding consumer experience that retailers deliver," said Bo Andersen, EMA President and CEO. "The Retailer of the Year awards recognize the 'best of the best,' those merchants who set the standards for the industry."
The winners in each category are:
Chain Entertainment Specialist Retailer of the Year: Hastings Entertainment Inc.
Mass Merchant/Grocery Retailer of the Year: Giant Eagle Inc.
Online Retailer of the Year: Netflix
iDEA Single Store Retailer of the Year: Jeanne and David Chamberlain, Video Plus & Tanning, Rice Lake, WI
iDEA Multi-Store Retailer of the Year: Kent Smith, Island Video, Inc., Seattle, WA
"The iDEA Retailers of the Year are undoubtedly some of our best and have served as model establishments for other retailers," declared iDEA Chairman James Loperfido. "They have provided a great deal of guidance for other stores that are seeking to increase profitability. They are truly examples of some the best minds and operations in independent video retailing."
EMA's Home Media Expo, sponsored by EMA and produced by Home Entertainment Events, will be held June 24-26, 2008 at the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is open to trade and press only.
Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) is the not-for-profit international trade association dedicated to advancing the interests of the $33 billion home entertainment industry. EMA represents approximately 600 companies throughout the United States, Canada, and other nations. Its members operate approximately 20,000 retail outlets in the U.S. that sell and/or rent DVDs and computer and console video games and digitally distributed versions of these products. Membership comprises the full spectrum of retailers (from single-store specialists to multi-line mass merchants, and both brick and mortar and online stores), distributors, the home video divisions of major and independent motion picture studios, and other related businesses that constitute and support the home entertainment industry. EMA was established in April 2006 through the merger of the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) and the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association (IEMA).
