•For an overwhelming majority of Americans, buying and renting prerecorded DVDs remains an integral component of their entertainment options.

•Home video is the most popular way for Americans to view the latest movies.

•49% of consumer spending on movies is from buying and renting DVDs.

•In 2007, home video accounted for 56.5% of studio revenue from movies. Theatrical came in second at 24.7%, followed by Pay TV at 8.8% and on-demand at 3.6%,

•More than 90 million U.S. households own a DVD player. Greater than 60% of these households have more than one player.

•Last year consumers spent $23.7 billion buying and renting DVDs, far surpassing the $9.7 billion that moviegoers spent at the theatrical box office. Consumer spending on home video was down approximately 3% over 2006.

•Consumers spent $15.5 billion purchasing DVDs and videocassettes in 2007, with DVDs representing more than 99% of the sales revenue.

•Video rental totaled $8.2 billion in 2007, with approximately 99% of revenue coming from DVD.

•In 2007, consumers spent nearly $300 million on high-definition discs.

•Each month, approximately 27.9 million households purchase a DVD and 27.1 million households rent a DVD.

•The U.S. DVD console household owns an average of 41 DVDs.

•11,623 DVD titles were released in 2007. Currently, there are more than 85,000 DVD titles available.

•Public chain video stores have a 41% share of the rental market. Independent stores have a 35% share. Online rentals account for 22% of the market and kiosks rentals are at 2.4%

•Mass merchants have a 44% share of the sell-through market. Consumer electronics stores have a 16% share. Online sales account for 13%. Warehouse clubs are at 9% and video specialists are at 4% of the sell-through market.
